What we learn in school and the way we learn it has shifted immensely in the last twenty-five years. For this journal look for examples of courses that were once taught at schools and colleges but that are less important or nonexistent today.

What to Do

In a 1 page response discuss how cultural changes create changes in education. In your response incorporate answers to the following questions.

• Based on your examples of outdated courses. Who were these courses for?
• What assumptions did such courses make about socialization and identity?
• What languages were taught in the past? Taught today?
• What cultural needs does education fulfill?
