The purpose of this assignment is to understand correctional policy changes in one area affect not only the intended area, but many areas of the system That effectively changes the purpose of many components in the correctional system and how the system operates to achieve the goal of the system.Read Chapter 1 in the text and submit a 1-2 page summary with the following information:

1. What are the elements of the corrections system and briefly describe each.
2. Provide an example of change and how that change effected other parts of the system. e.g. when the death penalty was abolished in New Jersey, how did this effect correctional practices in the local jails?
3. Explain why studying corrections from a systems framework is an effective way to examine this complex and controversial criminal justice component.
